Episode 7: Cat Sitter App MEOWTEL or Video Game Studio PLAYFUL? — Finding the Next Big Investment
Dave, Jordan, and Chris meet with Sonya Petcavich, founder of the fast-growing cat sitting startup Meowtel. Can the consumer market for cat sitting be as large as dog walking where valuations of thriving start-ups Wag! and Rover are nearing $1 billion? Chris, a crazy cat dad, tries to put his cat bias aside while the team evaluates what could turn out to be a huge opportunity.
Dumb Money friend and power connector Ryan Osborne joins the team for afternoon meetings, making an introduction to Paul Bettner who is best known for creating the iconic mobile game Words With Friends. Paul is raising money for his new gaming company Playful which is working on a revolutionary gaming concept he believes could someday topple Fortnight, currently the world’s most played game.
Lastly, the team meets with international entrepreneur Dennis Melka who is looking to bring his vision for on-demand automotive roadside service from Malaysia to America. He believes that bricks and mortar automotive service shops will be displaced by mobile service trucks as time constrained American consumers will prefer to get their car’s oil changed and tires replaced while at the office or from the comfort of their home. The Dumb Money buys into the idea but questions the unit economics of the business model.
