It’s the dawn of a brand new generation of gaming consoles. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have already proved that we have exciting years ahead of us featuring fierce exclusive competition, innovative games and epically entertaining misfires. The Google Stadia, however, has proven that we have exciting years of watching new consoles try and utterly fail to make a difference in the lucrative marketplace. As much fun as it may be to track all the reasons why the Stadia failed to take off, it is notable that the Stadia made it to market at all. There are dozens of high profile gaming consoles that, despite being advertised heavily, never made it to shelves for purchase at all.

While you might think that these games would exclusively be from small companies, big ones like Nintendo have had infamous consoles that promised revolutionary tech, games and features that would’ve changed the world of gaming forever...if they actually worked. Then there are the flat out lies that some companies told, hoping to build hype for a piece of conceptual hardware before a prototype was even in development.

Then there’s Sega which had so many consoles and pieces of questionable hardware that failed before having a chance to fail against Nintendo, that we had to pick the best ones.

So let’s leap right into the crazy world of the gaming devices that never were as we explore consoles that never made it to market.
