Our initial review looked at how well the Steam Deck performed as a Steam Deck. This time, we go over how it performs emulating other consoles.
Emulation notes:
All gameplay was captured at 1080p by connecting a steam deck to an Elgato 4K60 in desktop mode. For display in this video, footage was upscaled by Premier Pro to 4K. In general, captured gameplay reflects the overall emulation experience. Although, performance of single screen games did feel slightly better when playing in Gaming Mode and not outputting to an external monitor.
Additionally, we only cover a handful of the thousands of games available for each of the consoles (and only a handful of the dozens available consoles). Even on the most powerful machines, emulation quality may vary greatly between games. If you happen to find a case where Steam Deck emulation fails particularly hard, leave info about it in the comments so we and everyone else can use that info in the future.
